Roundtable Press Release - An Email A Day - 25 November 2008
White Ribbon Day
White Ribbon Day, 25 November, is the international day for men to show they do not condone or support violence towards women.
White Ribbon Day this year, acknowledges that many men are willing to show leadership and commitment to promoting safe, healthy relationships. The campaign also encourages men to challenge each other on attitudes and behaviour that are abusive.
There are many businesses and organisations throughout New Zealand who actively support White Ribbon Day and who are involved in a wide range of events and initiatives.
Local family violence prevention networks and other agencies are organizing events around the country, and people will be handing out white ribbons to raise awareness about ending violence towards women.
To support White Ribbon Day, you can:
- Wear a white ribbon to show your support.
- Challenge attitudes and behaviour which condone or tolerate violence.
- Encourage others in your organisation, family/whanau, community, street or workplace to wear a white ribbon.
- Organise a local event to speak out against violence towards women.
- Spread the word about the White Ribbon campaign and its aims.
The Launch of the Roundtable
We launched ourselves at the Centre for Global Action, in Wellington, on the evening of 18 November 2008. Two members of the Roundtable spoke, a short video about the Roundtable was shown, and fabulous food was prepared by the Wildcat Anarchist Collective.
